Another reason to visit Davao city is this year's "The Big Davao Fun Sale". Joining the festival are Abreeza Ayala Mall, Gaisano Mall of Davao and Toril, NCCC Mall Davao, Robinson’s, SM City Davao, and SM Lanang Premier which will offer up to 80% discounts on its widest range of products.

The festival aims to increase the number of tourists in Davao City so as to increase the sales of shopping malls in the city. Other hotels, restaurants and resorts will also be participating in this month long sale. It is also supported by some airlines like Cebu Pacific, Silk Air and Singapore Airlines, which offers special air fare promos.

Children's Day

Following a successful Back to School Gift Giving Project last May 2013, we are pumped as we have another advocacy project for the orphans, the “Children's Day”.

Fun Day highlights three different orphanages in the city namely Balay Pasilungan (located at Bankerohan, Davao City), Padre Pio’s Home for Children, and Providence Home of St. Joseph (both located at Tugbok, Davao City). These three orphanages provide the orphans their basic needs such as shelter, food, clothing, health care and quality education that prepares them to have productive and self-sufficient lives.

Together with Behind the Rolling Chair Volunteers are other partners who willingly accept the invitation to take part in this noble act. This is an event that showcase and enhance the talents of our orphans, let them have fun, and as well as for them to socialize with other children. We prepare different activities for the kids and invited performers/artists to inspire and let kids realize their own talents.

KADAYAWAN 2013

Kadayawan is derived from the Mandaya word "madayaw" which means, a warm and friendly greeting used to explain a thing that is valuable, superior, good, or profitable. Kadayawan sa Davao is a yearly event held every 3rd week of August. It is a celebration of bountiful harvest, wealth of culture and serenity of living.

This year's Kadayawan Festival is with the theme "Pagpaseguro sa Makanunayong Kaayo". As always, Behind the Rolling Chair has been participating to Kadayawan activities like Indak-indak and here's my captured moments of the said event.

BAG of DREAMS PROJECT by BAG943

BAG943, BAG which stands for “Be A Giver” sells good quality backpacks and for every purchase made, the company gives another bag to a school kid in need - BUY ONE, GIVE ONE. The company does not only sell good quality backpacks, its mission to empower poor school kids get and pursue education through their projects and programs is the selling part.

Since it launched, BAG943 had given over 400 school bags to Four (4) adopted schools across the country, a remarkable accomplishment for a company that is young and new. Every quarter, the company adopts at least one school to benefit from “BAG OF DREAMS Project”, a bag drive made possible because of the customers’ purchases. The number of sales the company makes equals the number of school bags that they give away to poor school kids.

Together with JCI Makati and JCI Duwaling, another 50 students of Don Francisco S. Dizon Elem School  Davao city were given school bags last March 8, 2013.

Bag of Dreams Project was founded by two young and generous men, Rj Garcia and Josh Mahinay. It was July last year when best friends Josh and RJ resigned from their jobs and decided to make helping poor school kids their full time Job. “ To succeed is one thing but to go back where you came from and be able to empower, inspire and encourage underprivileged kids with your own story is to me happiness and real service”, Josh said in an interview.

Let’s welcome BAG943 to 2013 with our festive flutes and wish them success in the coming years! There are not a lot of companies in the Philippines that were founded with social responsibility in mind and this is something that definitely should multiply in numbers. So folks, the next time you plan to buy your next backpack, you might want to consider skipping the big brands and make BAG943 your new backpack pick!

Here's mine!!!

Davao Life Is Here: The Bloggers Tour 2012

Fortunate to be part of this year's bloggers tour. This is in connection on the campaign for an accessible tourism in the city. Met new people and saw new places that you can surely recommend to your friends and family. Jack's Ridge was the first destination. The place was so perfect for weddings and other outdoor activities. In terms of accessibility, they still need to improve and develop facilities to be more convenient esp. to wheelchair person. Second destination was the gap farm. It was my third time to be in that place and take note, the last time i went there was during elementary days. The place was not that accessible also to wheelchair person. Last stop, D' Leonor Inland Resort. In here, we spent almost half day because of the list of adventures that you can try. The place was very accessible in fact majority of their entrances are in ramps. Best example of universal design also can be seen here.  Over-all, the whole experience for this year's bloggers tour was fun and worth remembering. Till the next tour bloggers!!!

Davao Life Is Here: Jack's Ridge As to Accessibility

My VLOG/s will feature places in the country and their accessibility for wheelchair person and to all Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). This is to give awareness to the public that it's already part of the Law which is called The Batas Pambansa Bldg 344. The said accessibility law is a way to enhance the mobility of PWDs by requiring certain buildings, institutions, establishments and public utilities to install facilities and other devices for accessibility. This will promote the realization of the rights of PWDs to participate fully in the social life and the development of the country.

Overnight Stay At Pearl Farm

After experiencing a day tour at a jewel in the southern Island of Samal Pearl Farm Beach Resort, a week after is a 2 nights and 3 days stay at the said resort. This time it's more of really a relaxation especially waking up in a cottage where sun rise is just in front of you. Not to mention the food which is really great. Sun Life Financial PressCon

Last Sept. 2, 2011 @ Roadhouse SM city Davao, I was invited for a press conference of Sun Life Financial. This was actually my second time to attend a presscon and i'm glad it's with Sun Life Financial. As young pro, I've learned a lot from the said presscon esp. in terms of how well do you invest your money. It's really important that you know where your money is. So Sun Life Financial offers you an opportunity to invest and to secure your future.
