National Film Festival II

Fortunate enough to be invited to witness the opening and premier of this year's National Film Festival (Ikalawang Yugto). It was such an honor to be part of this and able to know how they (directors & writers) work hard just to produced a one of kind master piece. Known people in the city were also present gracing the said event and of course the people behind all the film entries. It was a series of activities like the presscon at Grand Regal Hotel, premier/opening night and awards night consecutively at SM Lanang Premier Cinema. Thanks to the organizer for bringing good films to the city of Davao and to the directors and writers for inspiring especially the young ones to create our own films. Below are the entries for this year's National Film Festival (Ikalawang Yugto).

Here are some other captured moments during the National Film Festival (Ikalawang Yugto) at SM Lanang Premier Cinema.

Almario's Bedroom at PSID Class 2012 Exhibit

Booth #11 - Abot Kamay

This bedroom was design to be a handicap-friendly bedroom inspired by Naprey Almario (yours truly), and the needs of someone with a disability. He is a teacher, a friend to all, a brother, an active charity worker, an ex -PBB Housemate and a voice for people with disabilities, but most of all a person that represents hope.

Functional and aesthetically pleasing, it is a space that reflects the personality and lifestyle of the individual. It is a sanctuary where he can relax, unwind but still be productive, a place where he can be himself.

PSID Advanced Class 2012 Exhibit

The Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID) marks its 45th year with “Gabay: Dibuhong Umaakay,” the graduation exhibit of the PSID Advanced Class of 2012, on September 29-October 31, at the former Super Sale Club. In cooperation with SM City North Edsa Interior Zone and the National Council for Disability Affairs, “Gabay” showcases 20 different spaces designed in creatively planned solutions.

PSID has been known to produce groundbreaking exhibits that become the benchmark of interior design exhibits in the academe. This year’s exhibit delves into a topic rarely discussed in interior design: livable yet stylish spaces for the blind, the deaf, the mute, the crippled, and the elderly.

There are 24 spaces will be divided into four main areas: “Tanaw” (for the visually impaired), “Dinig” (for the hearing impaired), Galaw (for the elderly), and “Tindig” (for the orthopedically-challenged). The goal is to create environments for the persons with disability that will help in their healing process as well as assist the physically impaired and geriatric in their homes and assure their safety while providing comfort and style.

Are We Ready for Barrier-Free Tourism?

Are we ready for barrier-free tourism(BFT)? Is our infrastructure ready? These two questions never stop echoing into my mind. Since i started working, i have been travelling already in different places in the country. Lets just say, one reasons why i work so hard is to travel around the country, see the beauty of life, and experience new environment. But every time i travel i always consider the accessibility of the certain place. I make sure that i will not have any difficulties in transportation, accommodation, and other needs. I believe that i am not alone in this kind of circumstances.

Go Nuts Donuts Donut TALK: Bloggers Event

Before, I really thought Go Nuts Donut (Doughnut) is very expensive and it seems like it is not so Pinoy but here's what I discover about Go Nuts Donut.

EVOLUTION OF GO NUTS DONUTS
The Go Nuts Philosophy is a combination of the company’s drive to assist in today’s fast paced world while retaining its core heritage. In doing so we have faith that our brand can easily keep pace with many international counterparts in the local arena and represent what is truly Proudly Pinoy. In providing more than just great donuts we hope to encapsulate the comfort, convenience and the family environment.

Go Nuts Donuts (The Brand) has been around for the past 8 years and is competing against major donut brands such as Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Mister Donut and JCO. But among them, Go Nuts Donuts is the only brand that is proudly Filipino! And that is clearly a good reason why customers (especially the Pinoys) should patronize Go Nuts Donuts.

What sets Go Nuts Donuts apart from other brands?

Davao Life Is Here: The Bloggers Tour 2012

Fortunate to be part of this year's bloggers tour. This is in connection on the campaign for an accessible tourism in the city. Met new people and saw new places that you can surely recommend to your friends and family. Jack's Ridge was the first destination. The place was so perfect for weddings and other outdoor activities. In terms of accessibility, they still need to improve and develop facilities to be more convenient esp. to wheelchair person. Second destination was the gap farm. It was my third time to be in that place and take note, the last time i went there was during elementary days. The place was not that accessible also to wheelchair person. Last stop, D' Leonor Inland Resort. In here, we spent almost half day because of the list of adventures that you can try. The place was very accessible in fact majority of their entrances are in ramps. Best example of universal design also can be seen here.  Over-all, the whole experience for this year's bloggers tour was fun and worth remembering. Till the next tour bloggers!!!

Kadayawan 2012 Schedule of Activities

The festival of all festivals in the entire Philippines -  Kadayawan. It is a celebration of the bountiful harvest from fruits to flowers. For this year, 2012, here are the schedule of activities.

Visit this one http://napreyalmario.wordpress.com/2012/07/25/kadayawan-sa-davao-2012-official-calendar-of-events-2/ for an updated Calendar of activities for the Kadayawan 2012.

Davao Life Is Here: Gap Farm As to Accessibility

My VLOG/s will feature places in the country and their accessibility for wheelchair person and to all Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). This is to give awareness to the public that it's already part of the Law which is called The Batas Pambansa Bldg 344. The said accessibility law is a way to enhance the mobility of PWDs by requiring certain buildings, institutions, establishments and public utilities to install facilities and other devices for accessibility. This will promote the realization of the rights of PWDs to participate fully in the social life and the development of the country.

Five steps to providing accessibility information for tourist facilities

1. Complete accessibility factsheet PWDs require information on a number of factors to assess whether a tourist facility is accessible to them. This guidance shows facilities how to provide this basic information in a standard accessibility factsheet.
2. Submit completed accessibility factsheet to tourist information offices. Tourist information offices provide a central point for tourists to find out about the range of facilities available at a destination. Providing tourist offices with information on the accessibility of facilities, along with prices, opening hours, location, etc., will improve the service provided to all tourists.
3. Provide photographs of key features. Although self-assessment is a low cost option for facilities to provide information on access, it may not be the most reliable option. Providing photographs or plans of key features, such as the entrance, WCs, bedrooms and routes, allows disabled people to understand better the information provided in the accessibility factsheet.
4.Obtain independent verification of accessibility information.
Independent verification will ensure the reliability and accuracy of the information provided by the facility. In some countries formal schemes operate, but in all countries there are likely to be disability and/or access organizations that are able to check the validity of the information. The accessibility factsheet allows facilities to provide details of independent verification.
5. Participate in a national accessibility scheme Some countries have developed national schemes which provide an independent assessment of accessibility and enable facilities to use a recognized label to indicate the level of accessibility achieved (see inside the back cover for contact details). This will provide increased marketing benefits for facilities which have reached a high standard of access, and provide further reassurance to PWD tourists when making decisions. How- ever, tourists require comparable information to make decisions, so facilities participating in national schemes should still consider providing a completed accessibility factsheet. The factsheet allows facilities to provide details of participation in other schemes.

Addressing Accessibility in the Tourism Sector

Like the general population, the term ‘persons with disabilities(PWDs)” encompasses a diversity of individuals with different levels of ability and different requirements for travelling. There is a wide range of impairments, including those to do with mobility, sight, or hearing, as well as learning difficulties and allergies. Many PWDs are keen to travel, but wide variation in the level of access within destinations and across the nation generally, combined with poor information and negative experiences, discourages potential customers. Improved accessibility will not only result in economic benefits to the tourism industry but will also assist the move towards full social integration. Unnecessary barriers should be the starting point for thinking about access. Instead of concentrating on an individual’s impairment, tourist facilities and destinations should focus on the barriers to access created by:

Thank You Mama

Mom, Mother, Mommy, Momma, Mama,  Mum, or Ina. Whatever we call them, they're all referring to one and only girl in our lives - our MOTHER. Wikipedia define Mother as a woman who has conceived, given birth to, or raiseda child in the role of a parent.

For me, Mother is a bestfriend, an inspiration, a person that i look up to, my driving force, sometimes my enemy also (LoL), but mostly my comforter.  Sabi nga ni Victor Hugo and I quote "A Mother's arms are made of tenderness and children sleep soundly in them". So agree with this 'coz every time I'm sick, instead of calling the doctor very quick, I always call my Mom and ask her to come & visit me here in the city. My Mom is actually in the province together with my father and sister but every time I needed her, she's always there on my side."The heart of a Mother is a deep abyss, at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness" and that is according to Honore de Balzac. Again, I am so agree with this 'coz even if how hard headed I am which lead us both to discuss and argue, still my Mom is there to support me and love me unconditionally.

All of us in the family are not that expressive enough to the extent that we don't say I Love You to each other as often as we could." But, I really admire our relationship 'coz I can really feel how much we love each other. Sabi nga diba, "action speaks louder than words". I know that Mom loves me because of how she took good care of me since birth. I remember the time when I was diagnosed with polio, it was my Mom who was really affected. When I immersed myself into a series of therapies for the hope of recovery, it was my Mom who's there beside me. And I thank her very much for fighting with me and for not giving up.
"Thank you Ma dahil hindi ka sumuko para sakin. Salamat kasi ginawa mo lahat ng makakaya mo para gumaling lang ako.Salamat din dahil hindi mo pinakita sakin na nahihirapan ka,na napapagod ka rin,na nasasaktan ka rin.Thank you Ma."

I thank my Mom also for always supporting my undertakings. For not being so strict and allowing me to be independent and be matured enough. I thank her also for all the financial support. For all the guidance and 'for the love and care especially when the skies are grey. Thank you Ma!!!

   M - O - T - H - E - R
M - is for the MILLION things she gave me.
O - is for the OVERJOYED that we have shared.
T - is for the TEARS she shed to save me.
H - is for the HEART of purest gold.
E - is for her EYES with love-light shining.
R - means RIGHT, and RIGHT she will always be.

To all Mothers out there, to my aunties and friends, Happy Happy Mother's Day to all.Thank you for giving us birth and allowing us to see the beauty of ife. Today, tomorrow, & forever we will honor you.

Here are some videos specially made for you all.
